The Mandalorian Comes To A Galaxy Far Far Away
We finally have some more information on Jon Favreau’s Star Wars show that will be coming to Disney’s direct to consumer streaming service set to launch in 2019.
Titled The Mandalorian, the show will be set in the time period between Return of the Jedi (Episode 6) and The Force Awakens (Episode 7) and will see the rise of a new Madalorian warrior in the outer reaches of the Galaxy.
Jon Favreau took to Instagram to announce the series which then got an expanded upon on the official Star Wars website:
Production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun! After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Warsuniverse. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic. The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer. Stay tuned to StarWars.com for updates.
Alongside the announcement we got an image from the series which features a character in Mandalorian armour with the backdrop of a classic looking Star Wars town.
As well as the synopsis and first plot details we got the reveal of who will be directing these episodes. With top class talent the likes of Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok), Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) and Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), one name is sure to stand out among Star Wars fans. Dave Filoni, who has created and directed the Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows, is set to direct the first episode of this series. With his nearly unparalleled knowledge of Star Wars and creative genius Jon Favreau will likely consult him in many aspects of the law when building out this series.
To accompany these announcements the Star Wars Show posted a video on the official Star Wars YouTube channel.
