PlayStation E3 Showcase 2018
Sony’s PlayStation Showcase once again took the stage at E3 on Monday where they gave fans a deeper look at their 4 tent pole titles as well as some brand new trailers.
The Last of Us Part II
Naughty Dog took to the stage first with our first look at gameplay for The Last of Us Part II. The demo opened with an older version of Ellie seemingly living a more ‘normal’ life. The demo then shifted to a forest area where we see out first look at stealth and combat.
The game looks stunning with amazing animations and incredibly detailed environments. It is also brutal, absolutely brutal. Naughty Dog is not shying away from how violent the world of the Last of Us is and they show this in great detail.
No release window was given for The Last of Us Part II but make sure to watch the demo for yourself.
Call of Duty Back in Black Maps
Sony revealed that Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is now available for free on PS Plus and people that pre order Black Ops 4 through the PS Store will get access to 4 remastered classic Black Ops maps in Black Ops 3.
Next we got a quick update on all the games revealed during Sony’s Countdown to E3 series including Beat Saber, Ghost Giant and Days Gone Release Date.
Destiny 2 made a brief appearance at PlayStations conference with the first trailer for its up and coming expansion Forsaken, launching September 4th.
Ghost of Tsushima
The next of the 4 big Sony games we got to see was Ghost of Tsushima. As with The Last of Us we got to see our first gameplay and it looks just as amazing as Naughty Dogs titles.
Set in feudal Japan, you will take control of a Samurai in a beautifully realised open world. Developers Sucker Punch look to have nailed the sword combat with tense stand offs followed by fast, brutal kills.
We also got a small look a the mission structure which sees you rescuing a monk by climbing up a building which showed off some of the traversal that will be available to you.
No release window was given but you can see the gameplay demo for yourself to see just how good it looks.
Moving on we got our first debut trailer for Remedy’s new game Control. From the developers of Quantum Break they look continue that world bending theme in a new way with gameplay that looks a interesting, confusing and brilliant.
Resident Evil 2
Arguably the biggest reveal of Sony’s conference was the new trailer for the remake of Resident Evil 2. The trailers not only bring the classic right up to modern standards but also revealed that we wont have to wait long as Resident Evil 2 will launch on January 25th.
Trover Saves the Universe
Sony next gave us our first look at the fun and charming game Trover Saves the Universe, coming to PS4 and PSVR.
Kingdom Hearts III
Kingdom Hearts III once again made an E3 appearance but this time with a brand new trailer at Sony’s show. This trailer debuted gameplay from the Pirates of the Caribbean content in the game as well as a better look at the games story.
Hideo Kojima once again brought Death Stranding to E3 with a new look at his game including gameplay which if anything left fans with even more questions than answers.
The more that is revealed of this game the more fans wonder over what it will be but we at least now have our first look at how the game will run while playing it. The environments look incredibly lifelike as Norman Reedus’ character travelled across the world with amazing animations and performance capture.
Death Stranding does not have a release window yet but be sure to watch the trailer and see if you can make sense of Kojima’s sci-fi wonder.
Team Ninja gave fans the first teaser trailer for Nioh 2, the follow up 2017’s hit title, at Sony’s show which is sure to get fans of theirs excited that the game is coming.
Everyone’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man closed out Sony’s E3 Showcase with a new look at the gameplay.
Looking as impressive as ever we saw Spider-Man arrive at the Raft to take on the Shocker, only to have other classic villains enter the fray. We got to see our first look at Rhino, Scorpion and Vulture as well as Mr. Negative and Shocker all take on Spider-Man with potentially another villain teased at the end too.
The combat and traversal in this game looks unbelievably good and Insomniac Games seems to have completely captured the essence of Spider-Man in every way.
Luckily we don’t have to wait long to play as the web-head as Marvel’s Spider-Man launches on PS4 September 7th 2018.
Sony certainly delivered on the promise of their first party games at E3 this year but which of the 4 was your favourite?
Let me know in the comments.
